Taekwondo literally mean 'foot' 'hand' 'way or art' and was orginally deigned for the Korean armed forces. It has evolved into a well-rounded martial art offering something for almost everyone - realistic self-defence, fitness, stress relief, building of self confidence, social elements and much more!
What do you do in class?
Our Taekwondo classes offer a wide variety of aspects and our sessions offer a different workout week to week. Generally they include all the traditional aspects of Taekwondo - self-defence, patterns, semi-contact sparring, as well as the modern day C.V. and fitness work of pad and bag training.
Do I need to be fit to do Taekwondo?
Not necessarily, in fact alot of people actually join Taekwondo to get fit! In parts, fitness does help but the instructors know that everyone is different and always try to ensure students push themselves where they can in attempt to attain higher and better personal levels and goals.
Are there people my age doing Taekwondo?
Probably, we have students as young as 4 1/2 up to 65 years training with us!
Do I have to wear those white pyjamas?
The uniform we wear is called a dobok and it is part of the tradition and etiquette of our martial art. It also ensures all those who start are equal and eliminates any initial preceived image of elitism.
How long will it take me to get to black belt?
It takes a minimum of 3 years to get to black belt with us but it is dependent on your training, progess and development. There are plenty of other optional shorter term targets along the journey such as competitions, seminars, training courses - first aid and instructors to name a few, and also other coloured belts!
